BCBA Advocacy Delivers Spectrum Win for BC WISPs

The BC Broadband Association continues to advocate for policies and resources that support wireless internet service providers across British Columbia.

Working closely with CanWISP, the BCBA engaged directly with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) to request expanded bandwidth availability under the Non-Competitive Local Licensing spectrum program.

We are pleased to report that ISED approved a 40 MHz channel for this licensed spectrum.

This is an important development for wireless internet service providers operating throughout British Columbia. Greater spectrum availability can help providers expand network capacity, improve reliability and deliver stronger broadband services to rural and underserved communities.

The approval reflects the value of coordinated, persistent industry advocacy. By working together and presenting a clear industry position, BCBA and CanWISP were able to bring the needs of wireless operators directly to federal decision-makers.

This achievement also demonstrates the importance of BCBA membership. Member support allows the Association to participate in regulatory discussions, collaborate with industry partners and advocate for policies that strengthen British Columbia’s telecommunications sector.
